Legalising the Pirate Bay

The CEO of Global gaming factory, the company that is set to acquire Pirate Bay has issued a manifesto to shareholders that are due to vote on the proposed take-over. In the manifesto Hans Pandeya makes a case for a legal Pirate Bay that will have deals with rightsholders and find ways to charge for content. The $8.9 million acquisition that is to finalise at the end of August 2009 depends on the legalisation of the company that has had its founders sentenced to jail, its access in the Netherlands denied and numerous lawsuits to deal with.

The comprehensive manifesto (4 pages) was published in Wired magazine and concludes:

GGF is in a position to establish cooperation between different stakeholders to build a legal filesharing business where the rights of creators of contents are respected as well as the privacy of the users. GGF has chosen the right time and the right place to develop its venture; a time when society has to make room for entrepreneurial enterprises like GGF that see society’s failure in the filesharing world, and see the opportunity to adress the failure and create value. GGF is in aposition to create a safe haven for businesses to transact with its users with enforcement of property rights on The Pirate Bay.

In the interview below that was taken right after the acquisition Pandeya allready eludes to a business transformation. If users stay on board and rightsholders sign up this could make Pirate Bay (a Top 100 website) a music licensing business to watch.
