Rupert Murdoch puts his money where his mouth is

After spending most of 2009 attacking blogs, online magazines and even Google for publishing content without paying for it Rupert Murdoch, the CEO of Newscorp has made a small move in raising paywalls for content.

One of the smallest newspapers owned by Rupert Murdochs News Corporation has started charging readers for online material.The Standard-Times of New Bedford, Massachusetts, allows readers to view 10 items of content free before prompting them to subscribe. via BBC News – Murdoch-owned newspaper charges for content.

Two newspapers that had notable success with paid content online are the Financial Times and Newscorp owned The Wall Street Journal. Critical commentators have said that these newspapers are successful with subscription content only because hey provide critical business information that makes companies money.
