Getty Images and Saatchi & Saatchi announce an arts partnership with the launch of ‘Found Photos’
Getty Images today launches a partnership with Saatchi & Saatchi, aimed at facilitating greater access to reportage photography, and the astonishing stories that inspire the work. The initiative launches on July 14th, with the first in a series of photographic exhibitions, titled Found Photos.
Found Photos is a collection of images curated by Getty Images photographer Tom Stoddart. The collection surrounds the forced departure of 1.5 million Albanians from their homes during the Kosovo war, 1999. The mass exodus of civilians resulted in roads littered with personal belongings, the majority of which are moving reminders of happier times passed. Abandoned possessions included treasured photographs of family get-togethers, wedding portraits, holiday snaps and thousands of precious mementos, visibly weathered amid the war-torn surroundings. Tom collected a selection of the most poignant images whilst documenting the conflict, and will share these along with the story of his time in Kosovo at the exhibition launch, July 14th.
The Getty Images and Saatchi & Saatchi partnership will host a series of gallery events throughout 2011 and 2012, with the opportunity to meet and discuss the work with the creators.
Aidan Sullivan, Vice President, Photo Assignments, Getty Images added: “We are delighted to be partnering with Saatchi & Saatchi, to support their commitment to the arts and its impact in communication. The work that Saatchi & Saatchi will showcase in 2011 & 2012 will demonstrate how compelling imagery and content is at the heart of great storytelling and engagement.”
Larissa Vince, Communications Director, Saatchi & Saatchi said “Facilitating greater access to diverse forms of contemporary art is an important aim for Saatchi & Saatchi, and this partnership with Getty Images is a great way to help us achieve that objective.”
