Choosing an image isn’t just about “feeling”! You also need to be aware of technical issues which will affect its usage. If you aren’t familiar with definition, resolution, dpi, or ppi, here ‘s a short course.

Pixels and megapixels

In an image, the pixels are the colored squares which are lined up like on a crossword grid. An image’s definition is indicated as a number of pixels high by a number of pixels wide. These two values are multiplied together to give the total number of pixels in the image, and so the number of megapixels (1 megapixel = 1 million pixels).
