Stories make the journey from book to film often, and children’s books, with their amusing storylines, compelling characters, and easily deciphered moral lessons, are some of the best candidates for the transition. However, these movies often fall victim to their own origin, with movie-goers proclaiming the ubiquitous phrase, “The book was better than the movie.”
Communicating beloved children’s books to the silver screen is never more difficult than when the book in question is illustrated. The illustrations have already shaped readers’ visions of the settings and characters, which is why live action adaptations, and especially computer-generated animations draw so much ire from the original book lovers.
